Smith's Legion was once equipped through the spring of 1862 with a cavalry and infantry battalion. The roster for Smith’s Legion includes 1142 names. For a time the legion was once lower than the command of Colonel Sumner J. Smith. The cavalry battalion was once below the command of Lieutenant Colonel John R. Hart and significant Benjamin F. Brown.
The cavalry battalion raised a few of its contributors in Burke and Telfair counties. E," used to be indifferent from this regiment and have become Co. A, 1st Regiment Georgia Partisan Rangers and in this case grew to become Co. G, Smith's Legion Ga. Cavalry, which in March 1863, grew to become Co. G, sixth Regiment Ga. Cavalry. Paroled at Charlotte, N. C. might three, 1865.
